A BORDON man, whose wife is expecting his third child, has died after being struck by a car in Camp Road on Friday night.
Stephen Richard Goodman (37) of St Lucia Park was crossing the A325 at around 9-45 pm when he was in collision with a blue Renault Clio driven by a 20-year-old Farnham woman.
Pc Eric Martin of Whitehill traffic police said: ÒThe pedestrian was crossing from the west side of the car when the incident occurred.Ó
Mr Goodman was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where he died the following day from head injuries. The driver escaped injury.
The military training instructor, who worked at the headquarters of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (REME) Territorial Army (TA), had been selected for promotion to staff sergeant and posting to the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (SEME) in March.
A keen rock climber, Mr Goodman, leaves behind a wife Catherine and children Ryan (12), Alexandria (11).
Flowers have been left on the side of the road as a tribute to the man who had served in Angola, Germany, the former Yugoslavia as well as the United Kingdom.
Major Jim Fuller described Mr Goodman as a Òstrong and dedicated family man, who was held in the very highest regard by all who had the pleasure of working with himÓ.
ÒHe was a keen rock climber and a qualified rock-climbing leader.
ÒHe recently completed an ambitious and exacting rock climbing expedition in Spain,Ó said Maj Fuller.
ÒHe was keen on orienteering and middle-distance running and was a keen and active motorcyclist.Ó
