TOWN councillors this week welcomed plans to build a public house in Bordon. Members unanimously backed a scheme to use a unit allocated on Viking Park off Petersfield Road, for a traditional family pub. The plans were submitted on behalf of the Pathfinder chain and indicated that it will be food orientated. Planning committee chairman Adam Carew said: "This is what this council has been asking for, for some time." Councillors hoped that this would attract more leisure businesses to the other vacant areas on the site. Chris Wain said the design was interesting and asked that any planting planned should be of native trees. Pathfinder said the development would be a high-quality traditional design. Its statement said that it would be laid out as a food-led pub with no specific dedicated drinking area. There will be more than 50 parking spaces. A fenced play area outside the main building is also included in the plans.
