A PROJECT to enhance the Bourne Green is under way, with new bins and benches set to make their way on to the village recreation ground.

Town council leader and councillor for The Bourne, Carole Cockburn, told colleagues there are “huge problems with the bins on Bourne Green”.

Mrs Cockburn said: “This all started out as a bin project. It’s not that people don’t use them, they do use them, but because they’re old bucket type bins they’re not very big, and because people use them they get very full.

“Because of this, the wind, birds, foxes, etc, come and before you know it there is stuff everywhere.”

After discussions between the Bourne Beautification Project, the Bourne Conservation Group, residents, Waverley, and The Bourne Show Committee, the project came together and “everybody wants to contribute to making the Bourne Green the best that we can make it, and we’re going to try to replace all of the benches systematically”.

It was agreed by Farnham Town Council that they would purchase two new benches for the Bourne Recreation Ground as part of the project.

Mrs Cockburn continued: “I think our greens are so special and I think it will make such a difference to people of all ages who go and sit there to watch the sport or just walk their dogs.

“It has changed from me just saying the bins are messy, to a wonderful project to enhance the Bourne Green.”
