FIREFIGHTERS called out to rescue an un-named seven-year-old boy, who fell into an old well, on Saturday, have described him as an “amazingly lucky lad”.
Firefighters used a rope pack to rescue the boy from the well, which was 20ft deep. South Central Ambulance Service were on standby and resucers were on scene until 7.45pm.
Jerry Leonard, Hampshire urban search and rescue adviser said afterwards: “He was an amazingly lucky lad. It was a miraculous story to say the least. Fortunately there was only a small amount of water, probably about 12 to 18inches, so he was up to just over his knees in water.
“He also had a fairly soft landing in the fairly narrow well. It was an absolutely straight vertical drop, so he was uninjured other than some bumps and bruises.”
