AN Alton resident is urging fellow discerning motorists to boycott Sainsbury's petrol station due to its over-inflated petrol prices. Toni Ronane has been monitoring the prices of unleaded petrol sold from the Drayman's Way garage for some time, and the figures make interesting - if expensive - reading. "The cheapest unleaded petrol last week was 86.9p per litre while an ordinary garage in Guildford charges 78.9p per litre! The price went down to 85.9p on Tuesday and was reduced by a further penny per litre on Wednesday, but the BP garage on Butts Road still managed to charge 83.9p," said Mrs Ronane. "I thought Sainsbury's were worried about losing business, and that supermarket's were responsible for bringing prices down. "They're getting away with murder!" she added. In a response to these claims, a spokeswoman from the Sainsbury's press office declared: "Our petrol prices are priced according to the local market. We will be looking into it." But this is of scant consolation to Mrs Ronane. "Why has Sainsbury's head office decreed that Alton is more expensive than the Sainsbury's stores located in Farnham and Winchester? "Fuel is cheaper in London!," she added. "I will only go to Sainsbury's if it's an emergency. I usually make a point of shopping for petrol elsewhere. "I'm sure there are many more people who feel like I do!"
