BP is pressing ahead with its plans for a filling station on the Farnham bypass, gaining planning consent to put up illuminated advertising signs.

Councillors agreed to allow the company to put up a 6.7 metre high totem sign with the BP logo displaying the petrol prices.

The company also won permission to display an illuminated BP Connect sign, plus four logo signs and fascia signs on the car wash building.

Nine small directional signs have also been allowed with arrows guiding traffic into and out of the site, and two poster signs have also been permitted.

Council officers said that following negotiations with BP the company had submitted plans for signage that struck "a fair balance between the safety and commercial interests and the environmental impact".

The filling station, off the A31 between the Shepherd and Flock roundabout and Station Hill, is due to open in the spring. It will provide four petrol pumps, a shop, cash machine, a car wash and amenity area.
