ROWLEDGE'S attempted breakaway from Farnham turned nasty this week, with the village campaign group slamming Farnham Town Council for misusing tax payers' funds in an "appalling" and "illegal" bid to sway voters.

A second consultation phase on the proposed creation of Rowledge Parish Council is under way, with residents in Rowledge and the so-called 'Sandrock Triangle' currently being asked for their views on the proposed split from Farnham.

But Farnham Town Council, which strongly objects to the breakaway, has come under fire after writing to residents to urge them to 'vote no' - a move which campaigners believe breaches the Government's Code of Practice on Local Authority Publicity.
