MORE than 60 guests joined Haslemere Mayor Malcolm Carter at a special breakfast to raise money for his charities, hosted by The Hunter Centre.
The Hunter Centre in Grayswood Road, Haslemere, which supports those living with dementia at its day care facility, was one of the beneficiaries of the Farmhouse Breakfast and raffle that raised just under £1,000.
The centre will receive half the proceeds.
Trustee and local producer Margaret Barlow, welcomed guests, including town resident Dr Anne Hunter, a founder member of Alzheimer’s Society after whom the centre is named.
The event was organised and sponsored by South West Surrey Farmers’ Market Co-operative and producers and volunteers prepared, cooked and served a menu comprising the best local food and drink available.
Guests had a choice of porridge, muesli, apple juices, croissant, toast, honey, marmalade, as well as the main event, which was either ‘The Haslemere English’ a full cooked breakfast or a smoked haddock kedgeree.
Mr Carter said: “It was a great start with a full Haslemere breakfast for all my party of nine friends, and it was good to see the Hunter Centre full for an event supporting local charities, and everyone eating locally produced food.”
The Hunter Centre trustees chairman Anne Downing told The Herald: “I’m really pleased with the response to our first ever charity breakfast.
“It was a pleasure to welcome people to The Hunter Centre who had not previously had the opportunity to visit, and for them to meet our manager Elaine Clement and see the marvellous facilities we have there. We have already had requests as to when the next farmhouse breakfast can be held.”0
