ANDWELL Brewing Company has been awarded its second prestigious award in the space of just a few weeks.
The local brewery which poured its first pint in 2008 has been crowned with bronze awards in the regional SIBA competition and the International Beer Challenge.
In the regional competition, it was their ‘Crouch Hold Engage’ ale which won the bronze prize at the start of July, and was championed for its “blend of pale ale, brown and crystal malt, with a gentle spicy hoppiness.”
And the bronze in the International Beer Challenge saw their award-winning Pilsner take the acclaim, beating off numerous European competitors to the prize, competitors from countries who are far more renowned for their Pilsner productions than English breweries.
For 20 years the International Beer Challenge has rewarded and promoted excellent beers from around the world.
In 2016 with entries received from more than 30 countries the shrewdest judges in the land, including highly experienced judges from Europe studied each beer individually, considering the appearance, aroma, taste and the finish.
Andwell’s Pilsner, an already celebrated lager, takes its influence from Czech-style pilsners with a light golden colour produced from a combination of floor-malted English barley.
Brewer Adam Komrower, one of the partners at Andwell’s said: “It was great to hear that the pilsner had been awarded such a prestigious award, being an international competition our pilsner was up against others from all over the world and to come away with a bronze shows the quality of the beers that we produce.
“This award also comes hot on the heels of a bronze award for our Crouch Hold Engage, in a regional SIBA competition.”
The awards ceremony will be held at the start of September, and will precede the the opening of the brewery’s new on-site cafe by a matter of weeks.
The Brewhouse will be a purpose-built cafe, function space and brewery shop, located next to the brewery and due to open its doors during Septemeber.
