THE paper boat race returned for another successful year at the Elsead Moat, with pupils from St James School taking to the water to try to win the title of boat race champions.
This year, organisers Elstead Brownies and Guides chose the theme of Brexit, because it “gives us all that sinking feeling”.
Entries included the ‘Bo Jo Barge’ and ‘Rule Britannia’.
As the children took to the water, some boats fell apart in seconds, while others impressively survived and re-entered into the second race.
The winners of the various Elstead Paper Boat Race categories were as follows:
? Best Design: ‘Bo Jo Barge’ designed by Lillie Batty and Niamh Walers.
? Junior Winners: Han and Kai Manseck with ‘Stop Brexit’ after completing eight laps.
? Senior Winners: Ben Fowler and John Wills with ‘Boris Battleship’ after four laps.
? Best Sinker: Steve and Craig in the ‘Brownies Brexit Battleship’.
Elstead Guide leader Candice Whitbourn said: “Once again, thank you to everyione who gets involved by building boats and taking part in this unique event. It has been fab.”
