AROUND a thousand Lego enthusiasts young and old got busy building at Farnham Rugby Club earlier this month at charity Farnham ASSIST’s second blockbuster Lego exhibition.
The event opened with a steady stream of people which continued throughout the day. In all, approximately 1,000 people of all ages enjoyed viewing the models and creating their own, as well as being able to buy not only Lego but t-shirts, jewellery, beauty products and sweets.
Susie Blackwood, of Farnham ASSIST, said afterwards: “Farnham Rugby Club were great hosts especially the bar manager Jo Weaver who was so generous with her hospitality.”
She added the event wouldn’t be possible without the “wonderful creations of many Brickish members”, who built all sorts of Lego models, from a Lego interpretation of Labyrinth, The Millennium Falcon, Thunderbird 5, houses, photo montages, rollercoasters and a ball run contraption to name but a few.
Susie continued: “These members gave up their time to help Farnham ASSIST charity raise funds to continue supporting older people, and for that we are truly grateful.
“Vaughn Medway did a brilliant job in helping to co-ordinate the Master Lego Builders and was a great support in organising the event.
“Thank you to people who donated Lego for the event for the children to play with, much of this will now be donated to the Samaritans Purse Shoe Box appeal which is supported by ladies from our Knit ‘n’ Natter group held on Mondays at St Andrews parish rooms.”
The children that took part in the Lego build competition also arrived with very inventive creations, and once the votes had been counted the winning entries were as follows: Bailey (in the age four to seven category), and Richard (age eight to ten).
Kidd Rapinet, event sponsors, awarded the prizes and helped bring the event to a close at 4pm.
“In all the day was a great success which will be repeated next year,” said Susie. “Do call us on 01252 717710 if you would like to be part of next years’ event.”
