A?CHILDREN’S charity is celebrating another cash injection from a busy group in Petersfield.

The town branch of Save The Children raised £1,500 from a bridge lunch at Ditcham Park School on September 14.

The latest donation to the charity which supports children in the UK and overseas, follows hard on the heels of the town fundraisers’ Big Clothes Sale in March which raised a whopping £30,000 and £2,000 it generated from a family fun day in June.

The bridge lunch began with coffee and brownies on arrival and featured 70 players.

And the fundraising total topped last year’s event and will go toward humanitarian support where Save the Children volunteers are working.

Gordon Barker, acting chairman and treaurer of the Petersfield branch, said: “The demands placed on Save the Children are growing enormously as a consequence of the refugee crisis and it was very pleasing that as well as having an enjoyable day we were able to raise such a sum.

“Supporters brought bridge-playing friends to make a memorable day for the Petersfield branch of Save the Children while enjoying a great game with excellent lunch and good friends.”

The next event for the Petersfield fundraisers is a gift fair in the Festival Hall in November.
