WEYDON School has congratulated its team of four full bridge players, after winning the Intermediate Salver competition at the Surrey School’s Bridge Tournament.
The team, which comprised Jasmine Nobbs, Aidan Fellows, Ayla and Ronan Barrault Belford, were coached by Mike O’Donnell, a volunteer who comes along to bridge club once a week.
In addition, Weydon School had nine students participating in the mini-bridge competition.
They were in pairs and as a result one person needed a partner – Noah Harman paired Shimako Kato from Godolphin and Latimer School, and they won the competition. As a result Weydon School will be sharing the trophy between both schools.
The students representing Weydon for mini-bridge were Byron Gerhardt, Leuan Davey, Henry Burrage, Ben Carpenter, Noah Harman, Fred Harman, Bill McLeod, Nikkhil Narayanan and Jessica Vaux.
They thoroughly enjoyed the event and were delighted with the result. Mrs Sommerfelt, organiser of the Weydon School Bridge Club, said: “I am so proud of all the students who took part and so pleased we came back with a trophy.
“The students put in a lot of hard work during their spare time and it was great to have winners amongst the group. I don’t doubt that we’ll be back next year.”
