WAVERLEY councillors have opted for "the lesser of two evils" and given the go-ahead for a temporary bridge to carry construction traffic to the East Street redevelopment site.

The 25-metre bridge, from the A31 across the River Wey at Borelli Walk, was the solution reluctantly put forward by developers Crest Nicholson Sainsbury's, after Waverley refused consent last year for construction traffic to come through the town.
