A popular Farnham community service is on the move as it looks to relocate to Wrecclesham.

The charity Brightwells Gostrey has long provided a warm and welcoming environment for senior citizens to meet and socialise. After six years based at Farnham’s Memorial Hall, the organisation is now exploring a potential move to Brambleton Hall in Wrecclesham.

David Gourlay, chairman of Brightwells Gostrey, said:"I am delighted to say that it is our intention to move to Brambleton Hall in Wrecclesham.

“The hall has a brilliant useable space with a wonderful, enclosed garden area that our clients will enjoy and benefit from immensely; as well as a kitchen, so that we can all remain under one roof.”

Mr Gourlay also highlighted the strong support they have received from the local community, including the vicar of Wrecclesham, Sandy Clarke, whom he praised for his community spirit. He also welcomed the support of MP Greg Stafford, who has recently become the charity’s patron and is actively championing its work.

Waverley Borough councillor Kika Mirylees said the authority “remains firmly committed to supporting Brightwells Gostrey and the vital services they provide to older residents in Farnham”.

“Our priority has always been to ensure that Brightwells Gostrey has a sustainable future in a location that meets their needs and those of the people they support,” she said.

“We have worked closely with the Brightwells Gostrey team through our communities team, to ensure that their future home reflects the best possible model of support for older people.”

As part of this partnership, Waverley council has granted the centre £20,000 in funding this year to assist with the planned relocation to more suitable premises.

Cllr Mirylees confirmed that the charity is aiming to complete the move by September, and in the meantime, will continue operating rent-free from its current home at Farnham Memorial Hall.
