CHARITY began at home for a junior baker from Grayshott who was inspired to raise money for a worthy cause after watching a cookery competition.
After watching the Great British Bake Off charity special ‘Celebrity Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer’ seven-year-old Brooke Garland, came up with the idea of her own cake sale for a cancer charity – and she wanted to do the baking.
Brooke devised a plan with her mum Karen Musco, designed and drew her own invitations which she sent to friends and family, found the recipes, and made paper bunting to hang out on the day, plus labels for each type of cake.
Asked to make donations to the charity Children with Cancer UK, the schoolgrils who aimed to raise £100 was delighted that by the end of the day to have raised £268, with further donations swelling the total to just over £300.
And with the new series of Great British Bake Off already on Brooke’s TV musts, mum Karen is already thinking there could be another cake sale in the making.
