Terry Brown's jubilation at signing Wycombe's highly-rated defender, Jason Cousins, has been dented by the news of Stafford Browne's decision to leave Aldershot Town.
Last season's top scorer rejected Aldershot's offer of an improved contract on Monday, leaving the manager to find two new forwards in the next few weeks.
"Stafford has opted to leave the club and of course I'm disappointed," said Brown. "He tells me he has got a new club and when I asked him if we will be locking horns next season, he said yes."
Brown, however, is delighted with the acquisition of Jason Cousins who becomes the latest of a series of players to join the Ryman League club from Wycombe of the Nationwide League Division Two.
Cousins, 30, joined Wycombe, then in the Football Conference, from Brentford in 1991 and made over 300 appearances before being released by Lawrie Sanchez at the end of last season.
However, he has been granted a testimonial by a grateful club and will return to play in a prestigious fixture against Martin O'Neill's Celtic.
The versatile Cousins, who can play right-back, centre-back or sweeper, was a target of Brown when he was manager at Hayes.
"Jason is competitive and very experienced and should be a great asset in our push for the Conference," said Brown.
Cousins did it all at non-League level, winning the FA Trophy and the Conference title at Wycombe and then helping the club win promotion to Division Two.
Aldershot resume full training on Tuesday, July 2.
