TRIBUTES have poured out in memory of a teenage member of the Churt Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) and Farnham-based Tilbourne Players who died following a head-on crash just days after collecting her GCSEs.
Rosie Roebuck, 16, a passenger in a white Volkswagen Golf car died following the crash with a blue Peugeot 508 on the A283, near Northchapel, at around 5.23pm on Monday, July 9.
Rosie, a pupil at Haslemere’s Woolmer Hill, took her GCSEs last month to complete her final year at the school. She was pictured with her friends in the school’s prom pictures taken at Frensham Pond Hotel, at the end of June.
She was due to begin her A-level studies at Godalming College in September, and had dreamed of becoming an actress.
Rosie lived in Chiddingfold all her life and went to St Mary’s Primary School in the village. Her family paid tribute to their aspiring and beautiful young daughter, who was set to study England literature and language, psychology, drama and performing arts.
Her parents Alex, 50, and Jenny, 48, older sister Evie, 18, and brother Sam, 14, said in a statement: “Rosie wanted to be an actress and participated in many productions for her school, Churt Amateur Dramatic Society, CADS, and The Tilbourne Players.
“Recently, Rosie starred as Susan in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for Tilbourne Players, as Jack in CADS’ 2018 pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, and in the lead role of Sally Bowles in Woolmer Hill’s production of Cabaret.”
The production in January was so popular it was staged for three nights.
Directed by Ruth Ahmed, the school’s head of drama, she described Rosie’s performance in Cabaret as “formidable”.
The statement added: “Rosie was a talented and capable girl whose priority was her family and friends.
“She had a mature, intuitive and caring nature and always thought of others. Rosie was fun loving and always eager to try new things.
“Her natural beauty and gorgeous smile will be missed by all who knew her.”
Cerys Traynor of CADS added: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Rosie. She was a highly talented and valuable member of our group. Rosie was a delight to know and work with and such a beautiful personality. We will all miss her. Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time.”
Hilary Lee-Corbin, of The Tilbourne Players also paid tribute: “Rosie was a beautiful and lively 16 year old; a talented actor with a great sense of fun who was always considerate of others.
“Many will remember her brilliant performance as Susan in ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and she was due to play another role in ‘Witness for the Prosecution’.
“When I auditioned her a couple of weeks ago she was thrilled about her new part and was looking forward to her courses at Godalming College. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”
Responding to an outpouring of tributes on Facebook, Rosie’s dad Alex posted the heartfelt words: “Thank you for all the kind messages. It really helps.”
