Firefighters battled to stop a bungalow fire in Alton from spreading to neighbouring houses last Thursday.

Crews from Alton, Alresford, Basingstoke and Surrey were sent to the Medstead Road property shortly after 5pm in a rapid response.

Sixteen sets of breathing apparatus, three jets, and hose reels were deployed to quell the blaze, followed by ventilation fans to clear smoke.

Firefighters successfully dampened down the scene, scaling back the incident before the stop message at nearly 8pm. The fire destroyed a chalet attached to the property and caused significant smoke damage throughout.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remained on-site until around 9pm. The road was reopened after the fire and rescue service addressed the emergency and were satisfied there would be no further risk to motorists.
