A CRONDALL woman could only look on in horror as she watched her bungalow go up in smoke last Friday after a bolt of lightning struck a garden shed, in turn setting her property ablaze. Barbara Wilson was driving back from Alton at around 3pm when her daughter called to say her home in the centre of the village, in Orchard Court, was on fire. Eye witnesses said the fire broke out during a brief thunderstorm when lightning struck a garden shed, causing it to burst into flames. Despite the efforts of many neighbours, who formed a bucket chain, the shed could not be saved and they left just moments before a gas cylinder exploded.
