THREE Haslemere pensioners are left counting the cost of their Christmas after thieves broke into two elderly people's bungalows and stole cash and valuables amounting to nearly £1,000.
In the first incident thieves, who claimed to be water board officials, conned their way into the Lucas Field home of an elderly couple and stole £700 in cash.
