FARNHAM’s Safer Neighbourhood police team greeted shoppers in Lion and Lamb Yard last month to offer advice on how to keep homes safe from burglars over the winter months.
Statistically, burglary is on the decline in Surrey - with a 24 per cent drop in reports of house burglaries over the last three years. But Surrey Police wants to continue the decline and make the county a ‘no go area for potential burglars’.
On Thursday, November 12, PCSO Teresa Matthews and colleagues gave homeowners tips on how to reduce the risk of burglary.
These include registering valuable property for free online at Immobilise.com, fitting window locks and ensuring French windows and patio doors are secure.
Other advice includes installing a burglar alarm and low wattage security lighting, as well as never leaving doors, car keys or other valuables in reach of a letter box or window.
