PUPILS and staff at Eggar’s School in Alton enjoyed a long weekend due to a leaking water mains pipe.
The school was closed on Monday and Tuesday this week while the school’s emergency services team undertook essential repairs.
A school spokesman explained: “The site team discovered a clean water pipe burst in the school foyer on Saturday morning. The water was isolated, the insurance company were informed immediately and an engineer attended the site to investigate.”
While the broken pipe was replaced on Monday, the system could not be tested until Tuesday to allow time for the work to settle.
She added: “The school has been without any running water or heating during this time which is why it has been necessary to close the school to both students and staff.
“Teachers have been busy setting work for students through our online distance-learning platform to ensure they don’t lose out on valuable study time.”
The school re-opened on Wednesday.
