FEARS that bus companies and councils are putting profits before people have been expressed to Lindford Parish Council.
Clerk Wendy Noe explained that to get to Alton, residents currently have to catch a bus to Bordon and then wait 30 minutes for a connecting bus, or get the bus to Farnham and wait for an hour for a bus to Alton.
However, John Mariner of Hampshire County Council's passenger transport group has said that that the rerouting of a bus service through Lindford "would almost certainly not be commercially viable".
He said it would mean either omitting Whitehill from the timetable or adopting "a very circuitous route for which there is not sufficient time in the schedule".
The parish council has received a letter from treasurer of the village appraisal group Christine Whapshott, who says that Stagecoach and Hampshire County Council "just don't want to try".
She said: "The number 13 bus could come through the village by turning by the fire station traffic lights and do a circle round the village, but it looks as though they will not do this - so much for making public transport more accessible!"
She said that the bus company and council council "don't seem to care unless the route will make a profit and, although I know they have a business to run, public transport is meant to serve the community".
