THE battle to preserve Grayshott's only bus went up a gear this week following a Hampshire county councillor's threat to resign if the axe falls.

County councillor Ferris Cowper is spearheading the protest campaign against cost-cutting proposals to discontinue the Headley to Haslemere section of the route.

Local businesses and residents have protested that losing their last remaining bus service will "isolate" the village – and have a hugely damaging effect on the community.
