A DOUBE-decker bus made an unscheduled stop when it got wedged under Haslemere railway bridge on Monday morning.

The left upper deck window was smashed and part of the upper left side was torn off when Stagecoach’s 18 service from Haslemere to Aldershot hit the Lower Street bridge and got stuck.

No-one on the bus was hurt.

Officers were called to the scene around 9.20am following reports that the bus had collided with the bridge. Engineers from Network Rail were made aware of the crash and checked for structural damage.

Police directed the queues of traffic that built up in both directions as the stranded bus (pictured) reduced the road to one way. The stricken bus was cleared by10.45am.

A Stagecoach spokesman said: “There were no passengers travelling on the top deck of the bus and no injuries were sustained. Safety is our absolute priority and we will continue to liaise with the police as part of the investigation into the incident.”
