A TRIAL bus route running between Petersfield and Bordon has been hailed a success, with an "encouraging" number of shoppers taking advantage of the service. The pilot scheme was set up in a bid to provide better connections between the Whitehill-Bordon area and Greatham, Liss and Petersfield. But councillors say the northbound route has proved more successful, with Liss residents using Tesco in Bordon as their preferred shopping destination. In a report presented at last week's East Hampshire District Council meeting, Squadron Leader Geoffrey Whittle said: "Numbers have been very encouraging during the first month, with between 15 - 20 passengers using the bus each week. "Interestingly, many passengers from the Liss and Greatham areas travel north more than south to access the Tesco in Bordon and the Forest Centre." The service runs from 9 am to 1-30 pm every Thursday. Fares are on a sliding scale, reaching a maximum of £3.40 for a return journey between Petersfield and Bordon.
