A CORNERSTONE of the Farnham community for more than 400 years, The Bush Hotel is set to open a new chapter in its long history after the business was listed for sale this week.

Located in The Borough, the historic former coaching inn is reputedly of 14th century origin, although the existence of The Bush “at Farneham” was first documented in 1607.

Once owned by Farnham United Breweries, the three-star hotel most recently passed in to the ownership of Mercure Hotels which this week listed it for sale with Savills London.

The modern-day Bush Hotel is Grade II-listed and boasts 94 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant and bar overlooking the private gardens, a conference centre and parking for 55 cars.

The Savills listing states: “Originally a 17th century coaching inn, the Grade II listed Mercure Farnham Bush Hotel retains its period feel through being a traditional, ivy-covered red brick mansion boasting landscaped gardens.

“The hotel boasts stunning historic features with original wood beams throughout, a cobbled courtyard, fountain and illustrative paintings; yet the dedicated events space allows for a more contemporary feel in certain parts of the hotel.

“The Mercure Farnham Bush Hotel provides a charming destination for business or pleasure, whether it be weddings, events, corporate meetings or tourism.”

The listing also states there is “potential for the development of four residential units through reconfiguration of the car park”, subject to planning consent.
