ALTON Lions Club members have paid a visit to the Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre to hand over a donation of £1,200 – the proceeds from this year’s Easter ‘Eggstravaganza’.

The Alton Lions Easter egg draw involves pubs and clubs throughout the town and surrounding villages who kindly agreed to take an egg which is then raffled off for the year’s chosen charity.

Over the past five years the ‘Eggstravaganza’ project has realised £6,600 for Bushy Leaze.

This year, the participating outlets were Alton College, Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre, the Railway Arms, the Bakers Arms, the Wheatsheaf, the Kings Head, the White Horse, the Market Hotel, the Three Horseshoes, the Eight Bells, the Golden Pheasant, the White Hart, the Golden Pot, the French Horn, the Royal Oak, Lasham, Alton Community Centre, the Conservative Club, the Angel Hotel at Privett, and Worldham and Four Marks Golf Clubs.

A special thank you has been expressed by Alton Lions to all those establishments.

This year the funds will be used by Bushy Leaze to continue with programmes after Hampshire County Council withdrew a large portion of the centre’s funding.

Headteacher Patti Snook explained that the Alton Lions donation from ‘Eggstravaganza’ had been critical in this respect.

One such programme is the ‘cook and eat’ course that encourages healthy home cooking and provides vulnerable and needy families with much-needed support and practical advice on nutrition.
