THERE were queues round the corner for the grand opening of Space NK Apothecary in Haslemere High Street, last Thursday.

The high-profile cosmetics retailer, which launched in Covent Garden in 1993, has 62 outlets in the UK and 23 in the USA. In addition to its signature body, spa, man and woman collections, the company carries more than 60 specialist brands and has an in-store treatment room.

Its new Surrey store has had a complete refit to make it as light and airy as possible. The shop, which includes a treatment room, has an an extra special connection for the company, because managing director Heather Alexander lives in the town.

She said: “Haslemere is my sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of London, where I work. It’s calm with so much character and a strong sense of community.

“Retailing in Haslemere has a unique independent feel, you can always discover something new. I thoroughly enjoy browsing the Classic Cookware and Haslemere Book Shop on the High Street.”

Store manager Eloise Reader said: “It was insane, the queue before we opened at 9am went past the window and round the corner.

“We all adore being in Haslemere and it was wonderful to have such a great turnout for our opening, we have been just as busy ever since. Residents are enjoying having something so luxurious - it’s like a little escape.”
