A BY-ELECTION to fill a vacant seat on Alton Town Council’s Amery ward will take place on September 6.

It has been called following the resignation in July of Mike Dicker.

It has attracted three candidates - Amanda Durley (Liberal Democrat), Robert Saunders (Conservative) and Barbara Tansey (Labour).

The polling station, at Alton Community Centre on Amery Street, will be open from 7am-10pm.

Electors who would like to vote by post or by proxy can download a form online at yourvotematters.co.uk.

Applications for postal votes must be received by 5pm next Tuesday, August 21, and for proxy votes by 5pm on Wednesday, August 29.

Polling cards were sent out on Friday and postal vote cards will be going out from August 24.

Anyone not registered to vote can do so online at gov.uk/register-to-vote but must be registered by 11.59pm on Monday (August 20) to be eligible.
