Sir, - As residents of Shortheath Road for 31 years we were dismayed at the proposals put forward by consultants engaged by the Farnham Town Council to study traffic in the Wrecclesham "Street" area.
We are totally against the ideas of "calming" the traffic on the main A325 road at Wrecclesham and pointed this out very forcefully to Mr Vic Scrivens when we viewed the proposals at St Peters School presentations.
We also filled in a questionnaire to that effect and handed it in at the Farnham Town Council office.
A. The A325 is a main arterial road and traffic should be permitted to "flow" at a reasonable speed and not be restricted by calming.
B.If it cannot flow then the answer to that problem would be a by-pass which residents of Wrecclesham have been campaigning for over all the 31 years we have lived in Farnham and which surely should have been built by this time.
C.We have watched by-passes being built at Alton, new Alresford and (latest) Bentley which allowed traffic to flow and kept it away from the town/village centres to very good effect - the same should be done at Wrecclesham.
D.We have also seen the results of traffic calming in Camberley and know that any calming carried out in The Street, Wrecclesham, will result in drivers finding alternative routes and causing chaos in other areas of south Farnham.
E. The Echo Barn Lane, Shortheath Road, Ridgeway Road route is not suitable as a Wrecclesham by-pass and should not be delegated as such to obtain a cheap answer to the problem.
In conclusion we would say - no to traffic calming - build an A325 by-pass for Wrecclesham.
