TALENTED members of Haslemere Air cadets struck gold at an Aldershot Military Stadium sports challenge attended by 120 cadets from all over Surrey.

“We took a junior boys, an intermediate boys and a senior girls team,” operations officer Jess Gunner said.

“They had trained really hard to take part in the track and field events and were rewarded with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

“These were in 100m, 200m, and 400m sprint, the 1500m, the discus, shot, high jump and long jump, giving the intermediate boys team enough points to win the category overall.

“On final parade, they were presented with the Guy Gibson Trophy.

“I’d like to thank the cadets for all the hard work and effort that they had put in which makes it all worthwhile.

“Without the commitment of these young people our squadron wouldn’t be what it is today.”

All the gold medal winners will go on to compete against the rest of London and South East Region at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, West Sussex, later this month.

• Anyone aged between 13 and 17 is eligible to join the cadets. For more information call 01428 653933 or see www.haslemereaircadets.co.uk. The group meets twice a week and work towards a BTEC in aviation studies.
