A TOWN centre cafe has served up a winning entry in its debut appearance in Petersfield In Bloom.

Staff at the award-winning Monoloco are more famed for their massive breakfasts and lunches than their gardening expertise.

But teamwork is clearly the dish of the day, as the cafe on Pages Court has impressed judges with its wonderful blooms.

Monoloco came ahead of Rowlands Funeral Services, on St Peter's Road, to win the Best Basket/Container in the commercial section late last month.

"It's the first time we've entered so it's great to win at the first attempt," said cafe proprietor Neil Emery. "We could do it again next year."

Rain, slugs and snails threatened to derail this year's competition but residents still provided judges with a good crop of entries.

There was a sense of deja-vu on a Petersfield cul-de-sac as a group of residents added another gold to their collection.

Judges decided that 14-35 Alderfield was the town's most blooming lovely street, although Prudential Properties, Rams Walk and Henwood Down came close.

The 2012 prizegiving will take place at Festival Hall in October and will be presided by celebrity gardener Pippa Greenwood.
