A HOLT Pound resident has called for lower speed limits through the village following the death of a motorcyclist last week.

Bordon man Neil Barrett (28) was heading towards Bordon when the 1000cc motorbike he was riding was in collision with a Renault Laguna at around 8-45 pm last Thursday at the Fullers Road junction near Rowledge.

Mr Barrett was taken by ambulance to Frimley Park hospital suffering from severe internal injuries.

But despite repeated efforts to revive him, he lost his fight for life two hours later.

The driver of the Renault, John Prouse, from Little Green Lane, Farnham, was treated for shock at the scene but was otherwise uninjured.

Now Colin Banfield, who lives in Holt Pound Lane, says something must be done.

"How long must this madness go on? Two years ago you (The Herald) published my letter pleading with the council to introduce speed limits on the A325 through Holt Pound before someone got killed," said Mr Banfield.

"Week after week there are accidents and injuries as vehicles try to exit Fullers Road or turn into the Forest Inn pub. Now we have the tragic death of a motorcyclist. The disaster waiting to happen is a lorry ploughing into the children's play area next to the pub."

The accident was the latest in a long line on the A325, branded Hampshire's most dangerous road.

"We need the council immediately to introduce a 40 mph limit from the Forest Lodge Garden Centre up to the 30 mph limit in Wrecclesham," urged Mr Banfield. "And we need no more prevarication about a bypass for Wrecclesham and Holt Pound. Councillors - make it happen"
