IT is a year since the rally in Alton, organised by Energy Alton, to give support to the delegates to the UN Paris Climate Summit.

Banners were made and lifted high in central London the next day by a large group from Alton.

This week, the UK confirmed its support for the Climate Agreement and nations gathered in Marrakesh in Morocco to plan future action.

Energy Alton spokesman John Hubbard said: “So the good news is that there is a worldwide commitment to reduce carbon emissions. The bad news is that the damaging effects of climate change are being felt all over the world, so the need for action is even greater than we thought.”

As such, Energy Alton members have issued an open invitation to join them “to celebrate the good things that have happened this year”.

“Let’s also understand the huge challenges ahead and ensure that Alton does its bit in the future,” a group spokesman said.

The get-together will take place at The Railway Arms after the Christmas lights switch-on at 8pm tomorrow (Friday).

There will be no fixed agenda, just a chance to meet up for a drink and to share information, views, and ideas for the future.
