RESIDENTS have called on Waverley Borough Council to defend sports facilities for the benefit of the town's young people by refusing a planning application by Taylor Wimpey West and the Guildford College Group to redevelop tennis courts at Farnham Sixth Form College.
The plan involves 14 houses - six five-bedroomed, two four-bedroomed and six three-bedroomed – on a plot described by the applicants as "a wasted asset".
The site, which fronts Firgrove Hill and contains three tennis courts, a storage building and some scrubland, is within the grounds of Farnham College.
However it is owned by the Guildford College Group, of which Farnham College is now a part, whereas a charitable trust, the Farnham Education Foundation, owns the remainder of the college grounds.
