THIS half-term aspiring young dancers can take part in a two-day dance workshop run by The Dance Movement in collaboration with Farnham Maltings and Re:Bourne, the charitable arm of award-winning Matthew Bourne’s dance company.
The workshop, which is for children and young people aged 11 to 19, takes place on Wednesday, October 26, and Thursday, October 27, and is based around a gothic interpretation of Sleeping Beauty.
Complete with vampires just in time for Hallowe’en, it follows the success of the first joint project from The Dance Movement and Re:Bourne held earlier this year.
“The young people who took part in our last collaborative workshops greatly enjoyed learning choreography from Matthew Bourne’s production of Sleeping Beauty,” said Rachel Palmer, programme director at The Dance Movement.
“The Dance Movement and Re:Bourne are very excited to be able to offer this second opportunity to young people interested in developing their dance skills further over a longer period.
“We will group our young dancers together according to their level of ability, so whether they are completely new to dance or more experienced, they will benefit from the tuition and have lots of ghoulish fun along the way.”
The gothic twist to the traditional fairy tale means that this will be a very different version of Sleeping Beauty that should appeal as much to boys and young men interested in dance as it does to female dancers.
The workshop costs £40 for both days and runs from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. At the end of the day on Thursday, parents will be invited to watch a short performance by the dancers.
Sixty children and young people took part in the previous workshop held in May, Re:Bourne and The Dance Movement hope that this half term’s workshop will be just as popular.
Rachel added: “Both The Dance Movement and Re:Bourne are passionate about bringing dance to a wider audience and since we are both based at Farnham Maltings, we are keen to make the most of the chance to work together.”
