REBEL Conservative councillors have been warned by their local party chairman that their stance on East Street/Brightwells has created a picture of an administration "manifestly divided" and may damage the party's prospects in forthcoming local elections.

But the letter, sent by Richard Bourne, chairman of South West Surrey Conservative Association to five councillors who sit on both Waverley borough and Farnham town councils, appears to have widened the breach over the current development plan.

It is "a smoking gun", according to the development scheme's opponents.
