CAMPAIGNERS against a controversial plan to build 18 houses in Camelsdale have vowed to continue their fight now the developer has lodged a planning appeal.
Permission to build on land to the rear of 26-46 Camelsdale Road and 20 Sturt Avenue, was refused by Chichester District Council in September, on grounds of traffic and flooding problems.
Residents wrote 85 letters of objection, and two petitions were collected, one of which had some 155 signatures.
Angela Boyle, from Orchard Close, helped with the campaign against the application, and this week told residents to "keep positive".
"We have already done most of the essential groundwork for the appeal," she said.
"We will be asking the inspector to visit the Shottermill area that flooded last year."
Mrs Boyle asked that those who want the government planning inspector to visit their property as part of the appeal process, should contact her.
"Please contact us as soon as possible, as we have been advised to submit just one letter requesting a visit to various properties for this purpose," she said.
In the meantime, Mrs Boyle and her colleagues have contacted the Environment Agency, which has renewed its objection to the proposal on the grounds of flood risk.
Developers SC Properties have maintained that there is no such risk in their appeal.
A meeting was also held in October, between the developer and Chichester District Council, to discuss the potential of alternate access, direct from Camelsdale Road following demolition of No 34.
"What we need to watch out for is that the property developer can still submit another planning application," she said.
"If he is successful in resolving this with the council, it will be down the snake right back to square one and writing letters of objection.
"People should be prepared to do this if necessary."
The appeal will be decided by way of written representations.
