A CHARITY football match held in memory of Farnham resident Brian Agate has been hailed as a “great success”, according to family and friends.

The ‘Balls to Cancer’ match took place on Saturday, September 7, with two teams made up of family and friends.

It was organised by Brandon Agate, Brian’s son, who set up the venue, kits and teams.

Activities on the day included a football grid game and guess the number of sweets in the jar.

The final score of the match was 10-0 to the family team.

Grant Usher, nephew of Brian, said the day “went really well”, adding that a minute’s silence was held before the start of the game.

He added that Brian was a football fan himself who was “very passionate” and a Manchester United supporter:

He also described the happy memories he held of Brian at football games, that “he always used to take me and my cousins when we were younger”.

From the donations, £911.19 was raised, with Grant’s ex-football manager and friend of Brian’s, Vincent Sexton, boosting the total by £100 on September 17, giving a grand total of £1,011.19 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
