A PETERSFIELD mum is urging women never to put off cervical cancer screening after she was cured of the disease. With nearly a quarter of women failing to turn up for their three-yearly screening appointments, Libby Stockel is hoping that her experiences may encourage more women to take up an offer which could save their lives. The 'Jade Goody effect' which followed the tragic death five years ago of the reality TV star at the age of 28 from the disease saw an uptake in appointments following the massive publicity following her death. But Mrs Stockel, who lives with her husband Peter and 18-month-old son Joshua, is forever thankful that an early diagnosis and subsequent cure enabled her to go on and have a family. "Things could have been very different for me. If I had waited instead of going straightaway for my smear test as soon as the letter arrived, my outcome would have been very different," said Mrs Stockel.
