CANON Andrew White's recent return to Iraq's terror and carnage left him profoundly shaken, despite having witnessed the country's struggles and civil war over the last 10 years.

He told The Herald: "It is impossible to describe the terror and the pain, the brokenness, distress and fears of my people as we enter into sectarian civil war.

"It is difficult to tell of the intensity of violence here.

"The slaughters and massacres have intensified so much that the sound of explosions has almost become the norm."
