FARNHAM fundraising initiative Kids and their Bikes is offering parents the chance to capture their children’s love of their bikes in an exciting charitable photography project.
With bikes an ever-popular Christmas present, the project organisers anticipate they will hear from parents in the Farnham area whose children are getting out on their bikes this January.
Professional photographer and Farnham mother of two Sarah Angel, who is leading the project, is on a quest to find children who absolutely love their bikes to take part.
She has teamed up with the Farnham Bike Ride Charity to raise money for the annual ride which welcomes families, through Kids and their Bikes.
Participating children are photographed in a picturesque Surrey location of their choice where Sarah will capture their enthusiasm for riding and their attachment to their two-wheeled playmate in a fine art professional portrait.
“The memory of riding a bike on your own for the first time is a very special one so it’s no wonder that children often have a real bond with their bikes,” said Sarah who is also a former art and photography teacher.
“It’s that feeling of freedom and independence that my portraits for Kids and their Bikes capture so I would love to hear from you if you think your child would enjoy taking part in the project. My approach is about allowing children to relax and be themselves to get natural unposed shots.”
As a professional photographer previously working in London, Sarah now specialises in relaxed family portraiture.
Participating families are invited to make a donation to the Farnham Bike Ride Charity, and in return will receive a 16x12” fine art print and the chance for their child’s portrait to be featured (with parental consent) in a summer exhibition taking place at the Farnham Maltings. Parents can also purchase additional copies if they wish.
Sarah is looking for families with children aged two to 12 years, including siblings, to apply and hopes that her photographs and the project will inspire a lifelong love of cycling among local children.
Sarah says she is happy to include any sort of bike so long as the child loves it: “Old bikes, hand-me-down bikes, shiny new ones, BMXs, scooters, toddler trikes or mean-looking racing bikes - if your child loves riding it, that will come through in my portrait so do get in touch.”

A selection of 20 of the most iconic images captured in Kids and their Bikes will be exhibited at the Farnham Maltings between July 6 and August 3. The Farnham Charity Bike Ride takes place on July 8.
