SOUTH West Trains says it is working hard to deliver extra car parking spaces at seven stations on the network – and Alton is on the list. The work to deliver the additional 200 spaces started in early December at Ewell West and will finish with Farnborough by the middle of February. In Alton the plan is to create more spaces by repositioning the existing bays. An SWT spokesman said: "By making best use of the space we've got we will be able to deliver 18 additional parking spaces." Other stations to get extra spaces are Aldershot, Fareham, Farnborough, Tisbury and Wraysbury. Stewart Palmer, South West Trains' managing director, said: "This is great news for passengers travelling from these stations. "The integration of car and train travel is becoming more and more popular so the additional spaces are a welcome addition." South West Trains is working on a number of car park schemes as part of a £20m car park expansion programme to provide improved facilities and at least 2,000 extra spaces at car parks across its network.
