WaverlEy councillors have agreed to a 7.5 per cent increase in pay and display parking charges to match the rise in inflation since the last increase was introduced in February 2012.

It means parking in Haslemere High Street car park will increase from 80p to 90p for one hour, from £1.60 to £1.80 for two hours and from £2.80 to £3.10 for three hours with proportionate increases in medium and long stay parks throughout the town.

Waverley has suspended its pay-by-phone pay and display service, which was introduced a year ago and has 8,00 users, due to “contractual issues” with the supplier.

The council wxecutive, which met on Tuesday, also agreed to reduce the charging hours by 30 minutes. In future motorists will be charged from 8am to 6.30pm instead of 7pm.
