FAST action by eagle-eyed residents has led to the arrest of two men in connection with a spate of criminal damage to cars parked in Red Lion Lane in Farnham. Residents alerted police after spotting two men causing damage to cars parked along the road in the early hours of August 31. Two men matching the descriptions provided were later arrested by police nearby. The men, both 18 year olds from Farnham, are currently on police bail while investigations continue. Farnham Neighbourhood specialist officer, Pc Chris Skillicorn-Aston, said: "This has been a long- running issue with local residents, who have endured a number of incidents of damage since over the last few months. "These incidents have occurred randomly with no set pattern, although most have been on a Friday or Saturday night." Pc Skillicorn-Aston decided to set up a Neighbourhood Panel in Red Lion Lane in February when it became apparent that the level of incidents of damage had reached an unacceptable level. He said: "Following the meeting, police patrols were stepped up and a CCTV camera was set up. A Neighbourhood Watch scheme has also been established as a result of this panel meeting. "There was a marked reduction in the number of offences until the last weekend in August when damage was caused to a number of vehicles and properties, with wing mirrors ripped off cars and graffiti scrawled on houses. "Thanks to a couple of vigilant residents, two suspects were identified and apprehended in this most recent spate." Pc Skillicorn-Aston continued: "The panel continues to meet on a regular basis and on the whole has been happy that this issue is being dealt with, to the extent that it had adopted a new issue of traffic regulation as their priority. "This issue, which is around the enforcement of parking regulations in Red Lion Lane, is close to being resolved following negotiations with local residents and partner agencies."
