VANDALS went on the rampage in Woolmer Hill and Camelsdale over the weekend and caused damage estimated at £1,500 to seven cars.

Police are linking the incidents, which all took place overnight on Saturday and during the early hours of Sunday.

One of the victims, the owner of a Vauxhall Calibra from Rackfield, Critchmere, is believed to have put up a reward following the vandalism.

He found his car on the Sunday with scratches to the bodywork and a broken wing mirror, with some £790 worth of damage.

In a second incident in Rackfield, damage estimated at £250 was caused by vandals making deep scratches on a blue Vauxhall Astra.

Damage to the tune of £140 was caused to a blue Volkswagen Polo and a blue Volvo parked in Critchmere Hill, both of which had a tyre slashed.

In Woolmer Hill Road, two tyres were slashed on a black Rover saloon parked in a driveway, causing £208 worth of damage and in the Lower Hanger car park, a green Peugeot 106 had two tyres slashed.

The vandals also attacked Camelsdale causing £35 worth of damage to a Ford Escort parked in Sickle Road by puncturing a tyre.

Waverley police this week warned motorists to take care when parking their cars. Always use a garage is one is available and if not, park in a well-lit area, preferably in view of houses and consider fitting a car alarm.
