ANCHORSTONE Nursing Home in Farnham which provides care for up to 40 people, living with dementia has received a ‘requires improvement’ rating by Care Quality Commission (CQC), independent regulator of health and social care in England.
The inspection at Anchorstone Nursing Home, in Searle Road, which is part of the Woodgate Healthcare group, was carried out in July.
The home was rated overall as ’requires improvement’ on a number of grounds which included the safety of its residents, as not all risks to people’s health and safety had been identified and managed; and the assessment of the risk of harm to people from storage of hazardous substances, food hygiene and cleaning had not been appropriately managed by the staff.
However, the report stated that “where people’s liberty may be restricted to keep them safe, the provider had followed the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards to ensure the person’s rights were protected”.
And that upon entering the home inspectors found that the care and support given by staff and the registered manager was thoroughly praised by residents and relatives. One commenting: “I don’t have any worries, I’m safe here and staff are brilliant.”
Another added: “this is a very special place. They treat people as people. The staff have love for residents and relatives and I can’t speak too highly of them.”
Chris MacLeod, registered manager (a person who has registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service) at Anchorstone said: “The inspector from CQC has confirmed that he does not have any significant concerns at Anchorstone, and we continue to work with CQC on all improvements we are making.
“An action plan was provided to CQC within a week of the inspection and all points have now been actioned. We would like to ask people to read the content of the report which highlights the very positive feedback from our residents and their relatives and how kind and caring our staff are here.”
