WHITEHILL district and county councillor Adam Carew this week defended his decision to defect to the Tories, following calls for his resignation and that he stand again for election under his new party.

Mr Carew resigned from Whitehill Town Council in May after his disillusionment with his then party, the Liberal Democrats, reached fever pitch.

This sequence of events - which followed him being ousted as both leader of Whitehill Town Council and the town Liberal Democrat Group - climaxed in him standing down from the Liberal Democrats entirely and joining the Tories.

But this week, Mr Carew stood by his decision and said he had no plans to resign as either a district or county councillor.
